The short answer

A website has 3 kinds of cost: building it once, keeping it online every year, and changing it when your business changes.

  • Keeping it online is a recurring cost. Check domain renewal, hosting and email separately. An advertised monthly hosting rate may require several years’ payment upfront.
  • Building it depends on the scope. Two national sellers list starting prices of ₹3,800 and ₹7,999 before tax. These are examples, not a local market average.
  • Check ownership as well as price. Ask whose name the domain will be in, who holds the logins and what renewals will cost.

What you pay for

Published prices checked on 5 October 2026. The priced examples below quote tax separately. Ask for the total, including any applicable GST, before you pay.

What sellers publish

Two national sellers’ city pages list these packages. These are advertised starting prices, not quotes for your business:

  • One listed a site for ₹3,800, plus ₹1,500 a year to renew, plus 18% GST.
  • Another starts at ₹7,999 for up to 5 pages, with a domain and hosting for one year, a security certificate and one email address; ₹14,999 for 10 pages; ₹24,999 for 20. Taxes are extra. Its page doesn’t say what the second year costs.

We do not have a verified range of local quotes. Ask 2 or 3 sellers for a written quote for the same scope.

For comparison, some businesses already pay for listings: IndiaMART’s TrustSEAL Pro, for example, costs ₹60,000 for one year, before tax.

What drives the price

  1. A template or your own design. Ask whether the quote covers an existing template or a design made for you.
  2. How many pages, and what’s on them. One page with your hours, services, map and a WhatsApp button is a small job. A catalogue with many products needs more work.
  3. Who writes the words and takes the photos. If the seller does, it costs more. If you do, it takes your time.
  4. Languages. Marathi and English means two sets of words to write and check.
  5. Features. Booking, a product catalogue, payments, or an enquiry form that reaches your WhatsApp.
  6. Who looks after it afterwards. Renewals, updates, changes and fixes, and whether they’re included or charged each time.

Mistakes to avoid

  1. Looking only at the offer price. The hosting example rises from ₹69 to ₹289 a month after its 48-month term. Ask when the offer ends and what the next bill will be.
  2. The domain in the seller’s name. You may need their help to transfer it. Ask to see it registered in your name, with an account you control.
  3. A “free domain” that’s free for one year only.
  4. A quote without GST. For example, a ₹10,000 quote with 18% GST added becomes ₹11,800. One seller above explicitly quotes that tax rate.
  5. “Maintenance” with no list of what it covers. Get it in writing: renewals, backups, how many changes a month.
  6. No way out. If the seller keeps the logins and files, you may have to rebuild when you move.

Questions to ask before you pay

  1. Whose name will the domain be in, and can I see it?
  2. What will I pay each year after the first, for the domain, hosting and email?
  3. Is GST included in this price?
  4. Who writes the words and takes the photos?
  5. How many rounds of changes are included, and what does a change cost after that?
  6. If I leave, do I keep the domain and get the site’s files?
  7. Can I see a site you’ve built, on my phone?
  8. Can it show Marathi as well as English, if I need it?

Do you need a website at all?

Not always, at first. A complete Google Business Profile is free, and answers much of what customers ask: when you’re open, where you are, how to call. Our guide to setting one up takes you through it.

A website earns its cost when customers need more than a profile can hold: your services in detail, a catalogue, batches and fees, or a way to book.
