Justdial or your own website: what each one is for, and what to check before you pay.

A free Justdial listing, a Google profile and your own website do different jobs. What each is for, what Justdial’s paid plans say in their terms, and the questions to ask before you sign.

The short answer

Often both, because they do different jobs. A free Justdial listing puts you in front of people who search on Justdial, and it costs nothing. A free Google Business Profile does the same on Google Search and Maps. Your own website gives you control over your words, photos and contact details. Make sure the web address is registered in your name.

Justdial offers paid plans for more prominent listings and enquiries. Read the plan and terms before you sign. The general terms promise no business. They allow upfront or instalment payments and set rules for renewal and cancellation.

A free Justdial listing

Justdial lists businesses for free, in three steps: your mobile number, your business details (name, address, hours, photos), and the categories you belong in. With a free listing you can reply to reviews and customers’ questions, and add photos and videos.

Before you start:

  1. Look for your business on Justdial first. It reported 5.61 crore active listings at 30 June 2026, so yours may already be there. Check the phone number and address it shows.
  2. Use the same name, address and phone as on Google, character for character. Our guide to your Google profile explains why.
  3. Keep the free listing and paid plans separate. Check the price and terms before accepting a paid offer.

Justdial’s paid plans: what the terms say

The live page is headed Terms of Service for Listing Services. It covers several packages, so check which clauses apply to the one you are offered. Package values vary by city, category and other factors; the page gives no fixed price list.

What to read closely:

  1. Business and enquiries are different. The general clauses promise neither enquiries nor sales. A guaranteed-enquiry campaign separately runs until its minimum enquiry commitment is met. Ask what your package commits to.
  2. A paid position may rotate. Position depends on category, area and payment. Other businesses may still appear ahead of you.
  3. An enquiry is not a sale. Cost-per-enquiry terms count information shared in response to a user’s request. Pay-per-enquiry deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  4. Renewal and termination have separate rules. The general term is 1 year or more, unless agreed otherwise. Clause 4 requires written non-renewal notice at least 3 months before expiry, unless agreed otherwise in writing. Clause 26 allows termination only after 9 months, followed by 3 months’ written notice.
  5. Cancelling auto-debit is a separate action. Clause 4 describes mandate cancellation. It also says cancellation does not remove full-term payment obligations for discounted offers. Get the last debit date and any amount still due in writing.
  6. Read the full contract. The invoice, terms and annexures override earlier written or spoken understandings. Fees are payable upfront or through the available instalment options.
  7. “JD Verified” describes a details check. It checks the name, address and contact details against supplied documents or the registration form. It is not a promise of service quality.

What it costs. The pages checked do not publish a package price list. Ask for a quote for your category and area, including tax, term and renewal.

For scale, Justdial reported 19.29 crore quarterly visitors for April–June 2026. Its voice, desktop and mobile counts may overlap, so this is not a count of distinct people across all channels. It is also not the audience for your listing.

Our calculation from that quarter’s results gives about ₹1,700 in monthly operating revenue per active paid campaign. We divided ₹327.5 crore by the average of 6,31,530 campaigns at the start and 6,39,200 at the end, then by 3 months. This is a rough comparison, not a package price or an average bill.

What your own website adds

  • Control over your pages. Register the address in your own name and keep access to the accounts and files. You decide the layout, words and contact details.
  • Room for your own structure. You can organise services, a catalogue, batches and fees, or booking in the way your customers need. Justdial also supports catalogues and business details; these are not exclusive to a website.
  • It doesn’t bring visitors by itself. People reach it from your Google profile, your listings, your visiting card and your WhatsApp messages. A website and a profile work together.

So which do you need?

  1. Start with the two free ones: a Google Business Profile and a free Justdial listing, with the same details on both.
  2. Add a website when you need more control over how you explain your business or handle enquiries.
  3. Before paying for any plan, find out where your customers come from now. For 1 month, ask every new customer: “How did you find us?” Then you’ll know what a paid plan would have to beat.

Before you sign a Justdial package: questions to ask

  1. What exactly does it include: which position, categories and areas (pin codes)?
  2. Is the position fixed or rotating?
  3. On a cost-per-enquiry plan, what counts as an enquiry, and what does each one cost?
  4. Will customers see my own phone number?
  5. Does the same enquiry go to other businesses too?
  6. How long is the contract, when does it renew, and how do I stop it?
  7. How do I cancel auto-debit, and what payment obligations remain?
  8. Is GST included?

Get every answer in writing before you pay: under the terms, the written contract is what counts.

Mistakes to avoid

  1. Paying on the strength of a phone call. Get the package, total cost and term in writing. The terms say the invoice follows payment, so ask for a written proposal and the applicable terms before paying.
  2. Treating mandate cancellation as contract cancellation. Record the renewal date, notice deadline and any amount still payable.
  3. Different details on Justdial and Google. One name, one address, one phone, everywhere.
  4. Counting “enquiries” as customers. Count the calls, chats and sales yourself.
  5. A listing with an old phone number, or someone else’s.
  6. Expecting a website to be found on its own. It needs your Google profile and listings pointing to it.
